Last Game: The Tigers almost snuck out of Hinkle Fieldhouse
with a win on Saturday, eventually falling to the Butler Bulldogs 70-67.
Despite hitting just 23 of 37 free throws, Princeton had a chance to tie the
game at 69 when Denton Koon got a good look at a half-hook turning to the right
baseline, but the shot hit the back iron.
Still, Koon finished with 21 points off the bench, while
Hans Brase had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Henderson kept his rotation pretty
tight, with only Koon and Chris Clement making more than a cameo appearance off
the pine.
Here is a cool, albeit Butler-centric video:
The Leopards fell to 0-2 last Wednesday with a 90-81 home
loss to Robert Morris. Up by as many as 11 points in the second half, Lafayette
was outscored 42-22 over the last 14 minutes of the game. Guard Bryce Scott led
all scorers with 25 points, while Dan Trist had 18 and 12 rebounds.
Key Matchup: at 6-9 and 246 pounds, Australian big man Trist
is a physical presence down low and will have a size advantage over Brase (who,
at 6-8, weighs in at 231). Trist only averaged 3.7 boards a year ago, but if
the Robert Morris game is any indication, he looks to be hitting the glass a
little harder this year. The Leopards don’t have much size besides Trist, so if
Brase can win that battle the Tigers figure to have the advantage in the paint.
Storylines: Koon has played starters’ minutes this year, and
doesn’t seem to be affected by Henderson continuing to go with Weisz in the
starting lineup. Weisz has played well, earning rave reviews for his basketball
IQ and work ethic, but its hard to imagine that Princeton will go the entire season
starting games without its best player not named T.J. Bray on the floor.
As for Bray, the senior captain got the cast taken off his
left wrist last week, but the Tigers are being cautious with his return.
