Former TCA standout Robin Perkins transfers to Rider
The Rider women's basketball team is adding some local flavor.
Coach Lynn Milligan announced Friday night that former Trenton Catholic Academy star Robin Perkins will join the Broncs after spending her freshman season at St. Francis (Pa.).
Perkins has to sit out a season under NCAA transfer rules, but will be eligible in 2014-15. She will have three years of remaining eligibility.
"We are thrilled that Robin has decided to join the Rider women's basketball team," Milligan said in a statement. "She is a great young lady who wants to work and (be) successful. She is an extremely athletic long talented guard and will give us more options on the wing at both ends of the floor."
Perkins, from Willingboro, excelled at both basketball and track at TCA. She helped lead the Lady Mikes to three state titles on the hardwood while claiming individual glory in the high jump.
She finished her TCA career with over 1,000 points and a Tournament of Champions MVP award as a junior.
Perkins' transition season to Division I play went slowly, though, as she averaged only 2.4 points per game in 26 appearances for the Red Flash.
"Her skill set allows her to be a multi-dimensional player and with a year of development the sky is the limit for her," Milligan said of the 5-10 guard.
Rider is coming off a 15-win season — its highest total under Milligan who is entering her seventh season — including a 10-8 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
