Rider basketball coach Kevin Baggett has added four players
to next season’s roster, including two-time South Jersey Player of the Year
Xavier Lundy.
Lundy, a 6-foot-6 forward out of Paulsboro High, won a pair
of South Jersey Group I titles, helping the Red Raiders to a 57-4 record over
the last two years.
He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season
and 22 per game as a junior. For his career, Lundy finished with 2,135 points.
Joining Lundy is a trio of players from Florida — forward
Khalil Thomas and guards Jimmie Taylor and Brandon Channer.
Thomas, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Lauderhill and Blanche Ely
High, was a top-20 prospect in the state, according to FloridaHoops.com.
He picked up first team All-Broward County and second team
All-State (7A) honors.
Taylor, a 6-foot-3 guard from Suwannee, averaged 24 points
and 10 rebounds per game for Suwannee High and was a first team All-State (5A)
selection. He was second in Class 5A in scoring.
Channer, also a 6-foot-3 guard from Tampa, played last
season at Faith Baptist Christian in a post-grad year. Prior to that, he
averaged 18.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest for Strawberry Crest High and
was a second team All-State (6A) selection.
Baggett had to replace four players from the team that went
19-15 overall, finishing second in the MAAC with a 11-5 12-6 record and won a
postseason game for the first time since 1957.
Jon Thompson and Dera Nd-Ezuma both graduated, Jamal
Nwaniemeka transferred and Nurideen Lindsey withdrew from school to pursue
professional opportunities.
