One more tournament
First, apologies for the two-day break. I am aware that there was basketball played over the past three days, including Rider's wins over Fairfield (was there, sitting next to legendary Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan) and Saint Peter's (was here, in The Trentonian news room, doing my best to put the paper out since my boss was out of town), and I'll touch on that tomorrow.
Also, just when you thought three postseason tournaments were enough, there's this from Collegeinsider.com, which is launching ANOTHER 16-team tournament that will compete with the Princeton-based Gazelle Group's College Basketball Invitational.
Here's the press release:
BOSTON-- CollegeInsider.com is pleased to announce the creation of theCollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, which will begin inaugural play inMarch 2009. It's an absolute joke - but at the same time totally believable - that Don Harnum and Rider would attach their names to this tournament. It's a tournament for losers - just like the CBI Rider played in last year. The CBI is a joke - if you're willing to pay the fee to host a game, they'll make room for you in that tournament. This new tournament sounds just as bad. Then again, for schools like Rider that can't qualify for the NCAA Tournament or the NIT - WHEN YOU HAVE AN NBA LOTTERY PICK ON YOUR TEAM - I guess they need something to fall back on. It's a joke of a tournament and for Harnum and Rider to get themselves involved in this only adds to the fact why everyone sees Rider as small-time. Well done Rider! Well done.
how do you really feel Michael?
I may be mistaken, but I do not recall any mention of Rider attaching their names to such an event within the post.
Whomever you are it is claer you have some other kind of agenda that you take any opportunity you can to blast Rider.
Just an observation.
Keep up the good work Ben!
Ben missed the boat by not disclosing the fact Harnum is involved - Ben's a moutpiece for Harnum, Dempsey and Rider. Rider's admins love trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes - inflated attendance, Dempsey's win/loss record at Rider doesn't include his first year as head coach when they were 9-20 etc etc. On and on. Small time.
FYI: This was included in my story in today's paper:
"Rider athletic director Don Harnum is one of four members of the tournament committee, which will serve in a business capacity but not be involved in the selection process."
Ben,
If you want more info on the tourney. A classmate of mine is actually the guy organizing the event with the Dynasty Sports Agency. His name is Jason Belzer.
