Rider's Teddy Okereafor named MAAC Player of the Week

Rider guard Teddy Okereafor has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Okereafor averaged 30.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists in a pair of Broncs victories.

He scored a career-high 38 points in a 102-100 double overtime victory against Marist. He also set the MAAC record for free throws made (25) and attempted (30) in single game.

On Sunday, the London, England native tallied 23 points as Rider rallied past first-place Iona, 79-75, for its second straight win.

The Broncs are 6-12 overall and 2-5 in the MAAC. They started 0-5 in the league.

Rider returns to action Thursday at Siena.

The MAAC’s athletic directors recommended to keep the league’s tournament in Albany, New York at the Times Union Center, commissioner Rich Ensor told the Albany Times Union Monday.

The vote passed by an 8-2-1 count with Iona and Monmouth, somewhat ironically opposed, and Fairfield abstaining.

The vote to keep the tournament in Albany, where Siena also plays its home games, still must be passed by the school presidents.

The TU Center is in the second of a three-year deal for the tournament. If approved the tournament would stay in Albany through 2018-20 seasons.
