Rider tabbed 7th in MAAC preseason poll

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced its preseason awards Wednesday night in a televised show broadcast on ESPN3.

Rider was picked to finish seventh in the 11-team league.

The Broncs went 14-17 overall a year ago and 9-11 in the league, but slipped to eighth after a last-season skid.

Iona, the reigning regular-season champion, was the top choice followed by Siena and Manhattan.

On the women's side, Marist and Quinnipiac tied for the top spot, while Iona finished third. Rider was selected sixth.

Sophomore guard Jimmie Taylor was the lone Bronc selected to an all-league team on the men's side. He grabbed a third-team spot.

Sophomore forward Julia Duggan was as also a third-team choice on the women's side.

A pair of Iona players — David Laury and Damika Martinez — were the preseason Players of the Year.

Programing note: Coming next week are Rider season previews + MAAC outlook, so stay tuned for that.
