Rider to face Hartford in CIT opener
The Hawks, out of the America East, went 17-13, matching the program record for wins.
Hartford is led by first team all-conference guard Mark Nwakamma, who averaged 14.6 points per game. Like the Broncs, the Hawks, who were seeded third, were ousted in the quarterfinal round of their conference tournament, getting upset by sixth-seeded UMBC.
This is Hartford’s first postseason appearance since moving to Division I for the 1984-85 season.
Rider, which reeled off five straight wins to end the regular season, is 18-14, having lost in the Metro Atlantic quarterfinals to Fairfield.
The Broncs are making their fourth postseason appearance in the last six seasons. This is their third CIT trip, the last of which came in 2011.
Rider and Hartford have met once before — a 68-57 Hawks win in 2004-05.
The winner moves on to the second round, which will be played from March 22-24.
Tip off Tuesday night is scheduled for 7 p.m.
