Rider announces 2014-15 non-conference schedule, will play at Kansas

A trip to one of college basketball's most historic venues and local bragging rights up for grab headline Rider's 2014-15 non-conference schedule, released by the school on Tuesday.

The Broncs visit Phog Allen Fieldhouse to play Kansas on Nov. 24 as part of the Orlando Classic. The remainder of the Orlando Classic -- formerly the Old Spice Classic -- takes place Nov. 27-30 in Florida. Other participants include: Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Tennessee, Rhode Island and Santa Clara.

Rider last played in the annual Thanksgiving-week tournament in 2008 and went 1-2, beating Penn State and falling to Kansas State and N.C. State.

Rider begins the season Nov. 14 by making the six-mile trip north on Route 206 to face Mercer County rival Princeton. The last time these two met — on Dec. 20 2012 — the Tigers blew out the Broncs, 62-45.

Despite their close proximity, the schools have only met 13 times since the series began in 1931.

Rider's second game is also against Ivy League competition with a Nov. 18 date set for a trip to the Palestra against Penn.

The home opener is Nov. 21 against Lehigh. The Broncs opened their season last year against the Mountain Hawks and gave up 92 points in a 14-point loss.

Other non-conference games on tap are home dates against Central Connecticut State and Morgan State and trips to Hartford and Wagner.

Rider is coming off a 14-17 season in which it finished 9-11 in the MAAC.
