Welcome back to the Trentonian's Full-Court Press blog. Yes, we're still alive, and with the 2015-16 season rapidly approaching, it's time to fire up the old blog for another season. Check back here throughout the year for updates on all things Rider and Princeton, including coverage of both the MAAC and Ivy League. Mark Medley to Rider; Shawn Valentine to prep school

I'm aware this isn't exactly primetime in terms of web traffic. But seeing as I spent about half my day in a traffic jam on the Jersey Turnpike and most of my evening at the Journal Register Co's ideaLab conference here in Bucks County, Pa., I'm only now getting to this:

It remains true that Rider's recruiting class of 2011 includes two guards, and that one of them is Philadelphia point guard Eddie Mitchell.

The name of the second guard, though, has changed.

Mark Medley, a 6-3 shooting guard from Tatnall, Del., is Rider-bound. Medley, a second-team all-state selection last year, is the second Delaware player to commit to Rider in the past two years, joining Polytech High standout Anthony Myles.

Rider, though, will not immediately gain the services of Shawn Valentine.

The Broncs were thrilled to land Valentine last month and remain excited about his potential. But the 6-7 combo guard -- who chose Rider over Rutgers, La Salle and Temple -- will reclassify as a junior and play next year at the Phelps School in Malvern, Pa.

Rider, which opens the season Nov. 12 at UMass, has three scholarships left to give.

What does "will not immediately gain the services of Shawn Valentine" mean? Is there a good chance he still plays for the Broncs at some point? That wouldn't make any sense to me. He'll probably go ride the pine at some bigger program in 2011. All the best kid.

Hey Ben,

Rider looking at any bigs? With Ringold graduating this year, the only bigs (centers, power forwards) on the roster will be Nd-Ezuma and Stewart.

Don't ask Marko...this blog is hoping for a starting lineup of 5 combo guards.

Sounds like Valentine wasn't admitted. You don't attend prep school in Malvern, PA if you want to try to latch on to a Big East program.

TMD39,

Not a bad idea...Illonis got to the final four one year with no starter bigger than 6-5. However, they did have Kendall Gill and Nick Anderson.

6'7, 6'7,6'7, 6'5, 6'2 is my guess at the Rider line up, and the most athletic team that I can remember at Rider

Getting caught up on blog responses here:

Anon: Rider's coaches are still expecting him in 2011-12. Will that come to fruition? Who knows. But he has told the coaching staff he's still firmly committed to Rider. He simply wasn't going to qualify academically, so he reclassified in order to go to prep school.

Marko: I'm told getting at least one big -- maybe more -- is a priority. They have three scholarships left to give. I'm guessing one will be a back-to-the-basket player and at least one Danny Stewart type -- somebody who's long and can defend/rebound, but who will primarily face the basket.

TMD: Huh? The blog is HOPING for all combo guards?
