Rider holds off Hartford

Teddy Okereafor's didn't have his best shooting night, but his second made basket of the night was enough to give Rider a road victory over Hartford.

Okereafor's jumper with 10 seconds left lifted the Broncs to a 63-61 win over the Hawks Saturday night at Chase Family Arena.

Okereafor finished 2 of 8 from the floor for just four points.

Hartford's John Carroll went to the free throw line with 2.8 seconds remaining and a chance to tie, but failed on his first attempt. He missed the second on purpose but Rider batted the ball out of bounds on the ensuing scramble, giving the Hawks one more chance, but they mishandled the inbound pass.

Matt Lopez paced the Broncs with 14 points and Anthony D'Orazio added 13. Kahlil Thomas had his best game of the season, scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Lopez tied the game at 61 on a layup with 50 seconds remaining and after coach Kevin Baggett called timeout to set up a press, Rider forced a 10-second violation to get the ball back and set up Okereafor's game-winning shot.

Corban Wroe led Hartford (6-5) with 11 points.

Rider (5-6) has won three of its last four and finishes non-league play this month with a pair of games against Morgan State and Wagner. It also picked up a victory away from Alumni Gymnasium for just the second time.

This was just the third meeting between the two schools. The Broncs have won two of them, including a 2013 game in the CIT.
