Rider wins CIT opener over Hartford

Anthony Myles netted 23 points and Rider won a postseason game for the first time since 1957, knocking off Hartford, 63-54, in a first round CollegeInsider.com tournament game Tuesday night.

The Broncs (19-14) will play in a second round game on Saturday, against an opponent yet to be
determined.

“It’s not the NCAA tournament, which is where I hope to get this program,” coach Kevin Baggett said on 107.7 The Bronc. “But if we’re playing in the postseason, I’m hoping to win. ... It’s a privilege to be in a postseason tournament. We needed to come out and play with a sense of urgency and understand that we want to win and keep enjoying each other.”
Myles shot 7 of 12 from the field and made all six of his free-throw attempts.

Jon Thompson added 16 points and Danny Stewart finished with 10.

Baggett matched Clair Bee for second place on the school’s all-time list for victories by a first-year coach with 19. He’s one win away from equaling Robert Greenwood for first.

Mark Nwakamma led the Hawks (17-14) with 17 points.

Hartford was making its first appearance in the postseason since moving to Division I.
