Game 9: Rider (4-4) at Drexel (2-4)

Who: Rider (4-4) at Drexel (2-4)

When: Noon, Saturday, Daskalakis Athletic Center, 107.7 FM The Bronc

Last time out: Rider lost to La Salle, 63-52; Drexel def. Rice, 55-47.

Background: The Dragons are 2-4 but that’s deceiving because they are still trying to cope without leading scorer Chris Fouch (16.7 ppg), who is out for the season with a fractured ankle.

Damion Lee, the team’s second leading scorer, also missed two games with injury. He returned for the final two games of the Anaheim Classic — Drexel went 1-2 — scoring 16 points in the win over Rice.

Lee and Frantz Massenat, the preseason CAA Player of the Year out of Ewing and Trenton Catholic, have to pick up the slack.

The Dragons lead the all-time series, 30-26, and have won the last four.

Projected starting lineups: Rider: G-Jon Thompson (Sr. 10.4 ppg), G-Nurideen Lindsey (Jr. 14.3 ppg), G-Anthony Myles (So. 14 ppg), F-Danny Stewart (Jr. 9.4 ppg), F-Junior Fortunat (So. 4 ppg).
Drexel: G-Frantz Massenat (Jr. 14.7 ppg), G-Damion Lee (So. 14.8 ppg), G-Derrick Thomas (Sr. 6 ppg), F-Dartaye Ruffin (Jr. 9.7 ppg), F-Daryl McCoy (Sr. 2.7 ppg).

Rider player to watch: Let’s see if Lindsey can have a bounce-back game. He scored just five points and committed five turnovers in the loss to La Salle. He’s a big-time scorer when he gets going, but his propensity to give the ball away has hindered his team at times.

Drexel player to watch: Obviously, it’s Massenat. He’s come back to haunt the hometown team before. He had 21 points in the Dragons’ win last year. Massenat and Lee, a 6-foot-6 guard who was a first-team all-CAA pick in the preseason, make up another terrific backcourt the Broncs have to deal with.
